Analogous Color Schemes

Analogous Color schemes are color schemes which are based upon corresponding colors which are found side by side in the 12 part color wheel such as yellow, yellow-orange and orange.

Complimentary Color Schemes

Color schemes which are based upon complimentary colors are always attractive.  Complimentary colors are any two colors which are directly across from one another in the 12 part color wheel.  Some complimentary color combinations include red and green, red-purple and yellow-green or blue and orange.  Using colors that are opposite from one another in the 12 part color wheel produces maximum contrast which increases the effectiveness of a web design layout.
